Wow. Were my eyes open today. I was in Barnes and Noble finishing a great book I have been reading Luke's Passage and after I finished I still had time to look around before I had to be at an appointment. I walked past a stack of books and one caught my eye...you know I don't even know what it was titled, I'm thinking it was ONE. I was captivated by the words in this short 15-30 page book talking about the fight against poverty and AIDS. Yes I have heard of AIDS. Yes I have been aware of what's going on in Africa and all around the world. Yes I have listened to Bono, seen the commercials, heard the music, etc. but have I ever opened my eyes to the problem?? I have to be honest and say No...not until today. While I was reading this book of Bono speaking to leaders, pastors, soccer moms, the President, Congressmen, and many more I realized I have missed something huge in my life. I have missed what God has called us to do. Take care of the poor and the brokenhearted. Just like it says in Isaiah 61:1 "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives..."
I'm really not sure what else to write. I'm still trying to gather my thoughts. Where have I been this whole time...this is a real cause to FIGHT for...to PRAY for...to be APART of. Check out www.ONE.org and join "the campaign to make poverty history". One of the quotes that stuck out to me in this eye opening book was "we are dealing with the leprosy of our time". Let our voices be heard.
