This past week...

So I have officially been in Kstan for a week and it’s been wonderful! Getting to know my teammates, the city, students and some other foreigners in the city has been great. I have remained healthy which is such a blessing. Two of my teammates (Jonathan & Miranda) and myself have had our first full week of language class. I have really enjoyed getting to know them better as we go to and from class. Learning a new language is definitely challenging, but it’s exciting too.

Last weekend my friends Julie, Bri , Betsy and myself went hiking in some mountains nearby. It was so refreshing to get out of the city and see some villages, as well as the beautiful God created landscape. We hiked around for about 4 hours and enjoyed getting to know each other better. The water that rushes through the base of the mountains is an amazing bright blue color---they say it’s because the water is super cold---hmm…maybe I will go for a swim. 

Earlier this week Julie and I decided to hike around Mt. Solomon (the mountain in the center of town). We went up there around sunset and climbed around for a few hours. It was beautiful. On the backside of the mountain you can see the boarder of Uzbekistan covered with sharp mountains…such a beautiful sight. (Check out pictures by clicking on the picasweb link to the right).

This coming week we are teaching a Study Seminar for University students. Yesterday we walked around the city hanging up flyers advertisting for the seminar. We are really hoping many students will come. We still have one more week before we start teaching English, which is good, another week to prepare. I am hoping to meet with a student tutor for language this week. I am really looking forward to getting to know her more and building a friendship. Her English is so good so it’s really easy to communicate with her.

Well this is a quick update. Thanks for all your prayers and support! Until next time….
